Linguistic Systems, Inc. Achieves EN 15038:2006 Certification

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – September 28, 2009 – Linguistic Systems, Inc.(LSI), a leading provider of language translation services, today announced that it has been certified to the international standard EN 15038:2006, an exclusive quality standard for translation service providers. This standard was developed and approved by members of the European Committee for Standardization in 2006 to create a way for translation companies to prove the quality of their service to their customers. Numerous translation service providers in the U.S. and abroad apply for this certification, but only the elite pass the rigorous assessment of their quality management system.

EN 15038:2006 has gained acceptance world-wide and companies within the European Union have started using it as a benchmark in their quality assessment of translation service providers. EN 15038 is compatible with an ISO 9001-compliant quality management system, but establishes additional requirements specific to the translation industry. The standard offers translation service providers and their clients a description and definition of all aspects of translation services, establishing requirements for human and technical resources, linguist competency of translators, project management, client relationships and quality management.

The select organizations that achieve this certification have successfully undergone a comprehensive, rigorous assessment of their quality management system by an outside, independent registrar licensed to issue the certification. To earn this certification, LSI was required to establish, document, and continuously monitor the processes for:

  • handling and analyzing client inquiries
  • determining project feasibility
  • preparing quotations
  • entering into agreements with clients
  • ensuring professional competencies of translators, editors and reviewers
  • ensuring the availability of technical resources
  • managing translation projects by project managers
  • concluding and delivering translation projects.

“We are so pleased that our quality management system with its rigorous internal quality procedures has been recognized and confirmed as delivering high-level service and expertise, and it is an honor to be one of the first U.S.-based companies ever to achieve this certification,” said Martin Roberts, President of Linguistic Systems, Inc. “In today’s competitive business environment, companies requesting translation services need to be confident that they are doing business with an organization that has the resources to deliver services that continually meet their clients’ needs in a timely manner. Our EN 15038:2006 certification recognizes the quality controls we deploy at every stage of a translation project, from selecting and approving translators, through the actual translation, to the editing and proofreading stages.”
