Background
The Legal Translation Center and its predecessor, The Legal Translating Service, have been serving law firms throughout the US since 1967. Hundreds of leading law firms and major corporations throughout the country have learned to rely on the expertise of this specialized translation service.

Founded by scholars from Harvard Law School who recognized that knowledge of legal processes and terminology was essential to perform correct translation, The Legal Translation Service developed this expertise and attracted a clientele that insisted on the best work possible. This tradition of excellence has been enhanced by its present-day successor, The Legal Translation Center, which offers online ordering capability as well as the best translations for legal documents into and from English for more than 100 languages.

Discovery (eDiscovery) documentation sometimes reaches tens of thousands of pages, while a foreign language birth certificate may be only 100 words. The mission of The Legal Translation Center is to satisfy all its corporate and legal clients’ needs with expert on-time work for language conversion regardless of the size of the project. That includes PowerPoint presentations, publication typesetting, A/V narration, conference interpreting with electronic equipment, on-site deposition and court interpreting, or off-site telephone interpreting.

Litigation Documents
Filing Complaints
When the opposing side is in a non-English speaking country, international conventions generally require that the complaint be delivered in the local language of the defendant. We can provide the needed translation with the special accuracy and correct terminology this requires. Certification of the translation is always available.

Discovery
If the proceedings enter the discovery phase, The Legal Translation Center can play a crucial role, with its vast resources, to get thousands or even tens of thousands of pages translated to meet a court-imposed schedule that can be very demanding. With our unique system that searches and retrieves the relevant foreign documents and then applies extremely low cost machine translation (MT), the client can quickly identify from the MT English version the important relevant documents that require higher quality translation for developing the case. The process is enormously efficient, saving the considerable cost of translating material that is not actually useful for the case.

The Legal Translation Center has the answer. Relying on 38 years of experience, the Center supports a great many of the top 100 law firms in the United States. For submission to the courts, notarized certification of the translation is available.

Intellectual Property
We have been providing technical expertise for patent translations since 1967. Performed by specialists with the relevant engineering or scientific background, the Center delivers the accurate work needed for correct evaluation or filing in foreign patent offices. Generally, when both English and foreign (local) language versions are submitted, the foreign language version, which is the translation, is the controlling version. The Legal Translation Center maintains a quality assurance system (ISO 9000) that ensures the accuracy required.

The Legal Translation Center offers a unique and effective means to reduce cost by using machine translation of foreign patents at minimal expense for a first pass to screen out the foreign patents that do not warrant careful review. For those patents that are significant, we can post-edit the machine translation to deliver a highly accurate rendering or disregard the machine translation to perform a new human translation. Additional savings come from the use of a memory tool that captures and re-uses repeat text (including fuzzy matches), commonly found in patent applications.

Immigration Law
Now there is a dependable resource, endorsed by immigration attorneys, to obtain expert certified and notarized translations to meet the requirements of the INS, Department of Labor, State Department, universities, hospitals, and all other government and private institutions. The translations are available from over 100 foreign languages paired with English, and on-site interpreting service is available for 80 languages.

The Immigration Division of The Legal Translation Center is a national resource serving the immigration law profession with translation of personal documents, correspondence, records, regulations, and other documents for filing or litigation. The Center provides a uniformly reliable high standard that meets the exacting requirements of the legal profession and the INS. It is operated by Linguistic Systems, Inc., which is the most experienced resource in the US for translation of personal documents: more than 20,000 personal documents translated since 1967.

Notarized certification: We offer notarization of translations, which includes a certification statement with a seal riveted to the translation and copy of the original document.

Translation delivery and charges
Our delivery schedule offers expert translation and proofing with a reasonably fast turnaround, ordinarily from 2 to 5 days for most shorter documents. For larger jobs, we work with the client to develop a mutually acceptable schedule. In almost all cases, we work to accommodate the client’s needs.

While market prices change from year to year, the rates that Linguistic Systems, Inc. charges have always been very competitive, consistent with the best professional practice, and contribute to a uniform loyalty that has persisted for more than three decades.  Many clients that started with us in 1967 are still buying from us today.
